Fruit in a jar set

Nobelhart & Schmutzig

Billy and Peter Kunze go way, way back. And ever since they first crossed paths, Billy has refused to buy his spread and jams from anyone other than Peter. What, then, makes it so special? Well, it’s simple: Peter only uses the best produce. Sure, that’s what it says on the label of the cheapest, bottom-shelf jam as well, but with everything we know about price, taste and availability of high-quality produce, we can assure you that only Peter’s is the real deal.

If you’re new to Peter Kunze’s magic, this is your perfect starting point, containing his lingonberry, gooseberry and Sicilian mandarin spreads. This makes for an incredibly versatile combo: perfect on buttered bread, spooned directly out of the glass, great for cooking. What each of these special spreads have in common is that they contain 70-75% fruit (of the highest distinction, we might add), a little preserving sugar and a whole lot of love. For the lingonberry fruit spread, Peter uses deliciously tart berries from Franconia’s finest wild shrubs. As with the delightfully tart gooseberry jam, the final step of production consists in spinning the fruit mass to filter out all the seeds, making for a lovely and smooth texture. The third one in the bunch is a little less local, but no less special. Sun-soaked Sicilian mandarins will have you reaching for the large spoon!

Why not order all these products individually? Because this lovely little package deal gets you 10% off, that’s why!

This set contains

Gooseberry fruit spread

If you’re looking for well-balanced acidity, well, here’s one for you. With only a little added sugar, the red gooseberry’s characteristic tartness remains deliciously intact.
70% fruity fruitiness.

Lingonberry fruit spread

The berry’s natural, pure taste really comes to shine as only a tiny bit of sugar is used for gelling purposes.
75% fruit, 25% jam sugar and nothing else!

Tangerine fruit spread

This is Peter’s version of the Proustian madeleines and takes him straight back to the days of his childhood. You’ll want to spoon this jam right off the glass, using a large spoon of course.
70% fruit, 30% sugar

Nobelhart & Schmutzig
If Billy is to be believed, Nobelhart und Schmutzig only exists so that he can easily get his hands on the best food the Berlin and Brandenburg region has to offer. And so he can help himself to any of the 1308 different wines stored in our lovingly curated cellar….  But all joking aside, the motto at Nobelhart is:

Putting Local Food Back in Your Hands!

Nobelhart & Schmutzig has been “vocally local” from the start. Since first opening our doors in February 2015, we have grown fearlessly into our current role as Germany’s most political restaurant. This involves a conscious decision to shift the focus squarely onto the people, all from the greater Berlin region, who produce our raw ingredients. This self-imposed renunciation of products from afar, including lemons, tuna and chocolate, is the foundation of our eatery’s distinctive signature. There’s more at play here than just culinary aesthetics. Serving this philosophy also intrinsically means promoting environmental and economic sustainability for the people working with the bountiful nature in and around Berlin. It also involves pride in a sense act, even if too few understand it as such. And the ordinary shopping list very much serves as the stage for this modern brand of politics.  In addition to supporting raw ingredient producers from the Berlin region, Nobelhart & Schmutzig works closely with Die Gemeinschaft to establish a new and better eating culture for all. Good, healthy food should provide a future, perspectives and identity for the people who produce it and the companies that transform raw ingredients into fine products.
