Michael Sans

Michael Sans is our house designer–in the true sense of the word! The interior of our restaurant comes from his skillful pen, from the room layout to chairs and candlesticks. From now on, you can not only admire the latter from your comfy perch on the high chairs at our kitchen counter, but get yourself one or several to get that Nobelhart atmosphere going in your own home. Oliver Thein and Markus Rios have used a structural steel for the implementation, which was welded in loving craftsmanship. To protect against corrosion, and to make the whole thing nice and matte, the candlesticks are then treated with a special oil.

Please refrain from using harsh cleaning agents or soaking the candlesticks in water – unless you like rust. By the way, we don’t mean that ironically at all. If you’d like to see what cleaning agents and copious amounts of water can do to steel, come to Nobelhart und Schmutzig for a meal. The large steel table that supports the two washbasins at the entrance to the restaurant’s restrooms was also made by Thein & Rios and is made of the same black steel as the candlesticks. It’s an excellent example of how beautiful a patina of rust that has grown over the years can be.

About Thein & Rios

Since 1993, Thein & Rios has been welding, soldering, grinding and shaping. In the company’s large production hall in Moabit, everything revolves around metal construction. The company works with agencies and companies as well as private individuals, artists and designers. In addition to trade fair construction, the production of tables, shelves, chairs and various other pieces of furniture, Oliver Thein and Markus Rios also take care of balconies, interior fittings and staircases or even refurbish old buses. Sculptures that the two build for artists can be found in museums in Basel, London or New York. John Bock, Monica Bonvicini, Keith Edmier or Angela Bulloch. Whenever our favourite product (and Nobelhart’s interior) designer Michael Sans needs metal work done, this is where he goes – and for good reason!
