A (pre-)Christmas season without cinnamon stars is like a Sunday without Berghain. We’ve long been looking for a take on this German advent staple that would be worthy of your custom – and after sampling dozens of contenders, Chief Quality Inspector Billy has picked out his favourite. Bäckerei Hetzinger’s cinnamon stars are made with only the finest ingredients on the premises of this traditional family business in the scenic Swabian town of Schorndorf, using Lübeck marzipan, almonds and Ceylon cinnamon. Sweet, juicy and just incredibly good.

Bäckerei Hetzinger
“Whatever we do, we do it well” is the motto of the Hetzinger bakery. And they’ve been doing it well for quite a while too: since 1892 to be precise. In the old half-timbered house in the beautiful town of Schorndorf, Manfred Hetzinger runs this bakery in the ninth generation, upholding his family’s time-tested passion, traditional recipes and manual production. At Hetzinger’s, all baked goods are made by hand and in-house, from the dough to the finished product. Ingredients are sourced locally; eggs hail from Remseck-Aldingen and flour from nearby Vaihingen an der Enz. The marzipan, however, has had something of a longer journey, coming from Lübeck. Needless to say, the Hetzinger bakery prides itself on doing without baking mixtures, additives or bad compromises.
